Stitch our Stories

The “Stitch our Stories” workshop is a smaller, local version of the bigger Stitching the Situation project. These workshops were part of the Boulder Library’s Summer of Discovery program in the summer of 2021.

“Stitch our Storie” invites the local community to create 6” stitched pieces that reflect their experiences of the pandemic. These pieces will be displayed together at the main library, likely this fall (2022), when complete.

During the workshop, we learned how to cross stitch, reflected on our pandemic experiences, and translated those reflections into a design to stitch.

Kits were provided by the library, handed out at various branches across the city, and included full instructions and materials so participants could complete the project at home if unable to make the in-person events (which were held outside due to pandemic conditions).

Larger stitch fabric was available for kids, as well as those with manual dexterity or visual impairments. Instructions were also available en Español, funded by a grant from the Boulder Arts Commission. I was also able to create instructional videos, subtitled in both English and Spanish, with the support of the amazing BLDG61 staff.

The Boulder Library Foundation for supporting the cost of this workshop and video production, and providing our community a way to come together and process our local experiences.

If you would like to bring this workshop to your community, please get in touch.

Also, the pattern for the “Hope Heart” is available here.
