Coloring COVID
I have created a coloring book based on my stitch project, Situation Report. (click through for details)
Coloring books for adults sprung up as a popular “self care” activity in recent years. In our current chaotic time of dealing with stay at home orders, many families struggling due to loss of income, kids at home all. the. time., and thousands of people literally dying or very ill, I find the frequent social media posts about taking time to DO self care a bit specious. The differece between survival and “time off” from our regular lives is one that is largely divided along socio-economic and racial lines.
The thought behind this project is to foreground the cost, in human terms, of our sudden “free” time, as it is anything but free. In response to and exploration of the underlying social tension, I invite you to download, print, and color these pages in any way you see fit. Tag them #coloringthesituationreport on social media, and feel free to add a comment or reflection, share a story about your experience during this time, etc.
